Lately I've heard the word "reckon" a lot and I don't know how to use it properly and if it's OK to use it in American English, since I've heard it in British movies and music. (Btw, correct me please if I made any mistake)

Reckon is the same as think, expect, suppose, estimate, consider... it depends on the context. Most used in British English. Some examples:
I reckon she earned a lot of money with her new novel - eu acredito que ela ganhou muito dinheiro com seu novo romance That is what we have to reckon with. - isso é algo que nós temos que contar Do you have any questions? - No, I reckon I don't - Não, presumo que não

I used to have a friend from the USA who would use ''reckon'' all the time, I learned the meaning of that word from her! It' also used in the USA but it's more of a southern thing apparently.
