Eu sei o que quer dizer a expressão, mas não sei uma boa forma de traduzir pra português a ideia de "very next".
Como vocês traduzem? Se puderem colocar mais frases com o "very" sendo utilizado de maneira parecida, seria bom.
Obrigado!
Hi!
Thank you for your interesting question. Keep on participating on the SA Forum!
I'll help you on that.
In this case
very is an intensifier to emphasize how quickly something has happened.
Eg.
He quit his job the very next day. = he quit his job right on the next day. Not any day later, but the exact day after. He couldn't wait any longer! He had to do it right away.
If I had to translate it, I'd say:
Ele saiu do emprego
logo no dia seguinte.
If you stop to think for a while the word
very means
muito in Portuguese. And the word
soon means
logo in Portuguese.
That's why I like to tell everyone that is important to try to understand the language the way it is, getting the main idea. Translation is a tricky thing because we have to understand how the language is thought or expressed by natives according to their culture and way of thinking. Sometimes we'll not find an exact word in our own language. So I'm used to say that we translate ideas, more than just words.
Other examples using "very" are:
The very first time = the exact day someone has done something for the first time in his life.
The very beginning. = right at the beginning of sth.
Hope I have helped you! 😊
PS: I don't know what your language level is, so I decided to translate my post to you. Hope you don't mind! 😊

Neste caso
muito é um intensificador para enfatizar a rapidez com que algo aconteceu.
Por exemplo.
Ele deixou o emprego no dia seguinte. = Ele desistiu do emprego no dia seguinte. Nenhum dia depois, mas o dia exatamente depois. Ele não podia esperar mais! Ele tinha que fazê-lo imediatamente.
Se eu tivesse que traduzi-lo, eu diria:
Ele saiu do emprego
logo no dia seguinte.
Outros exemplos usando "very" são:
The very first time = o dia exato em que alguém fez algo pela primeira vez em sua vida.
The very beginning . = Exatamente no início de algo.
Espero ter ajudado você!
