Nowadays, I'm listening to some podcasts, to improve my contact with the English. So, even though I have some issues to understand the American English (I think they speak too fast), I am practising by listening to the British English (Luke's English Podcast, to be more specific, whom I truly recommend). My question is: Is it okay to listen to both accents - the British and the American? Or should I focus on a specific one? Well, I know I will not manage to speak in a British accent just by doing this (as I said, I'm listening to the British English just because I think it is more suitable to me). But I'd like to listen to the American English as well, but I cannot understand a single word they speak (too fast). What can I do?

Your name is a reference to the The Strokes rock band, Im I right? I really like them. So, I have the same problem as yours but the oposite hahahah. I understand the american english but I can't understand the british english, I think, mostly, because of their accents and slangs (slangs are a challenge for us foreigners). Im trying to improve my comprehension of the english by listening/watching to some youtube videos from specifc channels like: - React Channel: Where they choose a group of people to talk about a specific subject, and they do it with different generations like elders, adults, teenagers and kids.
- Rachel's English: This is a channel that I really recommend for those who wants to learn more about grammar, accents, sounds, pronunciations, contractions (americans do it A LOT) and stuffs like that.
Hope you enjoy these channels, Be safe

whatup guys!! I think for most of us it´s too difficult to understand speakers of English even for intermediate students. for me I agree with @daniel0. I can`t understand british accent some times! well... My two cents. I listen to a podcast "let´s master english" and it´s Has been helping me a lot with listening even vocabulary. It´s very awesome, because there is transcriptions. the coach Shane speaks slow and fast the texts, it´s good to get some vocabulary. there is an APP for smartphone and youtube:
I hope it can help you guys
